Vernfield's Across The Oceans
This unique fundraiser combines learning, creativity, and physical activity while developing environmental awareness. All students will participate in all aspects of this fundraiser.

The following are the presentations that will take place during the day:

  • The Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center. Students will take on the roles of Schwenkfelder families and learn the reasons why and where the Germans settled in this area. Older students will be exposed to German folk arts, such as fraktur and scherenschnitte.
  • Paul Baxter and Jim Rembisz from Scotland. During this presentation the students will learn about life of the Highlander. This will include a demonstration from a bagpiper.
  • Musical Instruments from Around the World presented by Steve Gratis. This hands on station will have the students playing instruments from all over this great planet. There will be over 75 instruments to try. Drums, rain sticks, and bongos are just a few.
  • Beth Healy from Ecuador. There will be a presentation on the native dress, languages, and customs. Students will also learn about the rain forests, volcanoes, high mountains, and cloud forests in this country.
  • Pig Races. Each class will be given the challenge of personalizing a battery operated pig. Students will work together to name, dress, and decide on likes and dislikes of their swine. Each class will cheer on their pig as it races another class' pig.
This fundraiser is sponsored by the Vernfield Home and School Association.
