There are many wonderful opportunities to volunteer at Salford Hills. We value and appreciate our volunteers, recognizing their importance to our school community. Our volunteers provide vital services to our students and staff. Please read through the list of opportunities below to see where you can help our school.

In order to volunteer, please:

 

  1. CLASSROOM VOLUNTEER – Duties are determined by the needs of individual teachers. They may include copying, preparing materials for instruction, filing, setting up displays, assisting with academic tasks and essential services.

  2. HOMEROOM PARENT – Assist with the planning and hosting of holiday socials.
    (Fall, Winter, Valentines) **PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE WILL ALSO BE A GENERAL SIGN-UP IN THE CLASSROOMS ON BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT. PLEASE FILL OUT BOTH FORMS (Hands and classroom sign-up)

  3. LIBRARY ASSISTANT – Assist the librarian in tasks such as cataloging, shelving books and signing books out to students.

  4. BOOK FAIR – Help set-up, take down and/or assist students with finding books during the fair. (May)

  5. VIDEO LITERACY PROGRAM – Each student is videotaped during every academic year to chronicle his/her literacy growth. Volunteers briefly interview students and have them read a particular book while videotaping them. (Taping is throughout the year so you can pick a certain time to help video or help at home with making the DVD’s for the 5th graders). *Parts can be done at home

  6. SUNDAE BAR – Assemble ice cream sundaes for the students during lunch periods. Only four times per school year (fall, winter, spring, summer).

  7. MEMORIAL GARDEN- Help to maintain the memorial garden at the main entrance (3 times a year). *Done outside of school hours

  8. FAMILY NIGHTS – Assist with one or more family night activities:
        Back to School Bash (Fri., Sept. 19, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sign-up sheet will be on RSVP Form)
        Movie Night (Salford Hills, Friday, November 14, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.)
        Bingo Night (Salford Hills, Friday, March 13, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.)
        Lip Sync (Souderton High School, Friday, April 10, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.)
        Ice Cream Social (Salford Hills, Tuesday, June 2, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.)

  9. HOLIDAY GIFT SHOP – Help is needed to inventory merchandise, help student shoppers select gift items, and pack merchandise to return to vendor. (December 4)

  10. 5th GRADE MEMORY BOOK – A compilation of photographs reflecting the school activities of the fifth grade class throughout their time at Salford Hills. Volunteers are needed to collect, organize, and arrange photos and to oversee the book being completed. If you have a child in 5th grade you may want to join this committee. *Most of the work done January to March & can be done at home.

  11. PUBLISHING CENTER – Various roles in the process of turning original student compositions into hardbound editions. Parents needed to type, prepare materials for binding, and bind these original keepsakes. *Most of this work can be done at home.

  12. HOSPITALITY/BAKING – Help needed periodically to prepare baked goods and/or snacks for special recognition days.

  13. BULLETIN BOARDS – Assist staff in changing bulletin boards throughout the school year.

  14. R.I.F. – This is when your child(ren) receives a free book. Help is needed in assisting the children in picking out their book. This takes place two times per school year.

  15. C.R.O.P.S. VEGETABLE GARDEN – Volunteers will assist the Salford Hills Green Team (a committee of teachers) with organizing activities related to the garden's harvest, our annual Earth Day celebration, and families' & classrooms' time in our garden.

  16. RACE FOR EDUCATION – We have moved The Race for Education to be in the Fall. The next Race for Education will be October 2015. Sign-ups will be next school year.

  17. PRIME TIME READING – Help is needed for the planning committee that meets periodically before the event. Volunteers are needed for 2-3 hours the night of the event to help as chaperones, game coordinators and for set-up, sign-in and clean-up
    (October 17 for grades 3-5 & February 20 for grades K-2).
