Kindergarten Screenings

We’re excited about this summer’s upcoming Kindergarten screenings on July 16 (2:00 PM) and July 31 (11:00 AM).  If previously you signed up for one of our sessions, thank you!  If you have not registered for a session, access the link below:

Additionally, please review a few FAQ’s below which will help procedurally when your child attends and may add clarity as to the importance of the screenings particularly relative to student placement.

If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to phone our school office (610-287-9197).  We’re here to help and answer any questions you may have.

Thanks for partnering with us as we create a year of learning, engagement, and fun.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

It’s the big day!  What’s important to know before arrival?

All screenings take place at Salford Hills Elementary School.  Park in the parking area at the front of the school.  Your child needs nothing more than a happy smile and a little sense of adventure!  Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time.  For example, registered students for July 16 session at 2:00 PM should arrive by 1:45 PM.

I’ve arrived at the Salford Hills Parking Lot. What should I do?

Enter through the Kindergarten doors at the top end of the parking lot (not by the flagpole).  We’ll have tables set up just inside the door where you will complete a parent input form, affix a preprinted nametag to your child’s shirt, and create a nametag (first and last name) for yourself.  Your nametag will be helpful when reconnecting with your child at the end of the screening.  Restrooms are available further down the hallway and we encourage you to have your child use the restroom prior to the screening.

Will parents remain with their child through the screening?

No.  After signing in, a staff member will escort your child to one of the Kindergarten rooms where Salford Hills teachers will conduct the screening.

Can we tour the school while we’re waiting?

School is a busy place in the Summer.  Cleaning crews removed furniture into hallways and are working hard to make Salford Hills bright and shiny for students’ arrival later in August.  As such, classrooms and hallways are not accessible.

How long does the screening last?

Screenings are approximately 45 minutes.

What takes place during the screening?

While in Kindergarten classrooms, Salford Hills teachers lead students in a few academic activities; listening to a story, simple writing and drawing tasks, and free play with objects and manipulatives.  Students enjoy playtime on the playground equipment during the last component of the screening.  Teachers take notes which will be helpful when we place children into classrooms.

How will we use the information gathered during screening?

Creating balanced classrooms is one of our most important jobs in the summer.  With little information on rising Kindergarten students, screenings help us to know our students better to make more appropriate placement choices.

Will there be information for Parents?

Please feel free to come to an information session after you drop off your child.  The information session will be held in one of our first grade classrooms and be about 20 minutes long.

Where and how should I reconnect with my child?

Depending on the weather, we’ll end on the playground.  Walk along the access road to the right of the Kindergarten doors and we’ll reconnect you with your child at the conclusion of the observation period.  Please wear your name badge to assist us more easily and efficiently.  Thanks!
